Background

In November 2023, Turkish Aksa Energy signed an agreement with the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan, affiliated with the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, to build and operate a 430-MW combined-cycle gas power plant in Talimarjan. The cost of the project is estimated to be USD 250 million. The construction is expected to begin upon the completion of all the necessary site preparatory work, and it is anticipated that the plant will be operational within a year once construction is finished.[1][2] Another media source mentioned construction of a gas-piston power plant, which was scheduled to commence in January 2024, and the new plant was expected to be commissioned by the end of 2024.[6] In June 2024, equipment of the power plant was delivered to Kazakhstan’s Ersai marine terminal, part of the Caspian Sea port of Kuryk.[7]

The power plant was commissioned in December 2024.[8] According to Aksa Enerji, the power plant’s current capacity is 352 MW. Work to commission all units of the power plant is scheduled to be completed by early 2025. The source refers to the power plant as a combined-cycle gas power station.[9]
