Background

By 2025, the installed capacity of the Tambov power station will increase by 20 MW. This will be achieved through replacement of the old Unit 8 with a new Unit 8R as part of the implementation of the National Comprehensive Program for Modernization of Generating Equipment (KOMMOD). In September 2023, it was reported that the new steam turbine T-130 had completed the final stage of production at the Ural Pipe Plant - shaft turning tests. All the equipment manufactured at the plant will remain at the plant under responsible storage. In the second half of 2024, it will be delivered to Tambov for installation in a new location. Before that, a large volume of preparatory work will be carried out at the power station, including development of access roads, unloading areas and dismantling of old equipment.[13] The project was listed in the Russian Ministry of Energy 2024-2029 energy program released in November 2023.[14]

In March 2023, the equipment was delivered to the Tambov power station. Dismantling of the old turbine is planned to be carried out during the summer. Then, the foundation will be inspected to determine if it can withstand the operation of the new turbine. After that, the installation of the new equipment will begin. The turbine is planned to be started and the work completed by the end of 2025.[15]
