Background
In 2019 EP Produzione proposed replacing Unit 8 of the power plant with a new combined cycle unit. The proposals calls for the construction to take place in two phases, an 560 MW of open cycle gas turbine and then a 290 MW steam turbine.[11] According to new reports after the project is permitted, construction will take between 36 and 48 months.[11] The project was awarded environmental authorization in April 2021.[12]
