Background
Thunder Bay GS began operation in 1963, with one 100 MW coal-fueled generating unit. Two additional 160 MW coal-fueled units were added in 1981.[5] In 1984, the original 100 MW unit was removed from service. In 2014, the plant was mothballed as Unit 3 underwent a conversion to biomass fuel. It operated as a biomass facility from February 2015 until it was retired in 2018.[6]
