Background

Petronas is planning to build a nearshore FLNG terminal in Sabah, Malaysia, with a minimum capacity of 2 mtpa.[1]

In December 2021, Petronas announced it had awarded two FEED contracts to Japan's JGC and South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.[1]

In April 2022, Petronas signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC) to develop the terminal, with SOGDC supporting Petronas through the regulatory process.[5]

In December 2022, Petronas took a final investment decision, with the facility scheduled to achieve commercial operations by the second half of 2027.[4]

In January 2023, Petronas awarded JGC Corp. and Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (SHI) the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and commissioning contract for the FLNG.[6]

In April 2024, Petronas held a groundbreaking ceremony to announce the start of construction of the facility.[3]
