Metallus Harrison steel plant, also known as Timken (former) Harrison steel plant, is a steel plant in Canton, Ohio, United States that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Canton, Ohio, United States:
- Location: 1835 Dueber Ave. SW, Canton, Ohio 44706, United States
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 40.778466, -81.396889 (exact)
Background
The Timken Harrison steel plant began operating in 1916.
In 2006, TimkenSteel was fined $200,000 for air pollution violations between November 2002 and May 2003 and insufficient pollution control equipment.[1]
In 2008, the company invested $60 million into a new rolling-mill, which was complemented with further investments into upgrades in 2011.[2]
In 2015, TimkenSteel was fiend $400,000 for worker safety violations after a worker was injured in an accident.[3] In 2016, TimkenSteel faced a $129,000 fine for worker safety violations after another worker was injured falling from a crane.[4]
In February 2021, TimkenSteel announced it would be indefinitely idling the Harrison steel plant by the end of March 2021 due to effects from the Covid-19 pandemic, a move that would cut around 100 jobs at the plant.[5][6]
