Background

In January 2025, Gujarat energy company Torrent Power Ltd. announced plans to build a thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh. In a video of the announcement, the company’s vice president said the proposed power station would have a 1,600 MW capacity.

Torrent Power reportedly intended to invest Rs 18,000 crore (US$2.1 million) in the power station project.
