Background
In July 2021, the Republic of Panama and Energy Transfer announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to study the development of the pipeline and liquefied petroleum gas assets in Panama.[2]
The project would include terminals on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Panama connected by a pipeline for the receipt, transmission, and export of liquefied petroleum gas internationally. The development "would expand Energy Transfer’s international operations into new markets while providing Panama the opportunity to establish itself as a distribution center of petroleum products to markets globally."[1]
As of January 2025, there had been no news about the pipeline for more than two years, and the project was presumed to be shelved.
