Background
Tselentis Coal Mine is a 1.4-million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) opencast and underground coal mine Breyten, Mpumalanga, South Africa.[1]
As there have been no public updates about the mine in recent years, its operating status is unclear. The Tselentis coal mine is owned by Great Force Investments 178 (GFI) and Iron Light, which acquired the operation in December 2020 from previous owner Imbawula Mining.[2] Prior to Imbawula, Xstrata Coal owned and operated the colliery.[3] Great Force Investments 178 (GFI) and Iron Light also own the Spitzkop colliery.
The majority of the coal produced at Tselentis is exported to Europe for power generation.[4][1]
