UNC Chapel Hill Cogeneration Facility

The UNC-Chapel Hill Cogeneration Facility is a coal-fired power station owned and operated by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill near UNC campus in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The plant is to cease operation by 2020.

Campus to end coal use and divestment

In 2010 school Chancellor Holden Thorp committed to stop burning coal at the school's campus cogeneration plant by 2020. In the fall of 2011 UNC Chapel Hill announced they would eliminate coal out of university endowments.
