Background
The plant powers the United Pulp & Paper mill in Calumpit, Bulacan.[1]
A 2010 news article reported that the plant co-fired coal via a "circulating fluidized bed boiler utilizing coal, waste paper sludge, and bio-fuels like corn cob and straw dust." [2]
Proposed Expansion
In July 2019, the Philippine Environmental Management Bureau posted a notice of a public hearing for a proposed 25 MW coal-fired expansion unit at the pulp and paper mill's power station.[3] However, no further news of the expansion was available, nor was the expansion listed in the Department of Energy's list of existing power plants as of November 2023.[4]
