Upper Peninsula Power Company
Upper Peninsula Power Company, a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, Inc. is a utility company serving most of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. UPPCO provides electric power to consumers.
UPPCO's service area covers 10 counties in the central and western portion of Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Alger County, Delta County, Marquette County, Schoolcraft County, Baraga County, Houghton County, Iron County, Ontonagon County, and Keweenaw County. UPPCO generates only 20% of its electricity. The rest of it is purchased from Consumers Energy in lower Michigan and also from Wisconsin Energy Corporation, which owns the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette, Michigan.[1]
UPPCO's transmission voltage is 138,000 volts. UPPCO has interconnections with sister company Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, as well as Wisconsin Energy and their sister company, the Edison Sault Electric Company. UPPCO's subtransmission voltage is 69,000 volts. There are interconnections with the Marquette Board of Light and Power, Edison Sault, Alger-Delta Electric Co-op Association and the Cloverland Electric Co-op. UPPCO's distribution voltage is 12,500 volts.[citation needed]

UPPCO originally pays all costs of operating the plant. The City pays UPPCO the cost of operating and maintaining the plants, a management fee, and a dispatching fee.[2]
