Background

As of February 2021, Eneva continued to move forward with its plans and authorizations for the power station, including establishing an agreement with BP to supply imported LNG to Nossa Senhora de Fatima.[5] The plant was still in the licensing phase as of March 2021.[6] The project was listed as a participant in Brazil's A-5 national energy auction in September 2021[7] but did not emerge victorious.[8]

Opposition

In November 2022, the Brazilian environmental group Arayara filed a public civil action against Brazil's national environmental authority IBAMA, Rio de Janeiro state environmental authority INEA and four private companies. The filing alleged that the Nossa Senhora de Fátima power station, along with several other proposed power plants, would have a detrimental impact on water supply and air quality in the region, and requested that additional environmental studies be undertaken prior to further development of the power plants.[9]
