Background

The Usje plant is the only cement plant in North Macedonia. Originally operating with a semi-dry process rotary kiln, in 1967 a new dry-process rotary kiln with preheater was put into operation. In parallel with increasing the production of clinker, a new grinding facility was also installed. In 1972 another dry-process rotary kiln with preheater was put into operation in tandem with another, new grinding mill. Between 1979-1981, a series of modernization efforts were completed, including increasing the capacity of the crusher, building a conveyor belt to the marl hall, purchasing machinery for marl exploitation, replacing the clinker conveyor from the clinker cooler to the clinker galery, and installing another new cement mill. In 1998, USJE transitioned into a joint stock company, and TITAN Group and Holcim submitted a joint investment bid. This formalized the largest-ever foreign investment in our country at the time. Later, Holcim sold its stake to TITAN and the Group remains the sole owner of the majority stake in Cementarnica USJE.
