Background

The plant is operated by VS Lignite Power, a subsidiary of KSK Energy Ventures.[1] KSK states on its website that it has "entered into a power delivery agreement with various bulk consumers in state of Rajasthan"[2] "and is expected to cater to the power requirements of industrial consumers."[1] The company is expected to mine 1 million tonnes per year from the captive mine. The power station, which was commissioned March 31, 2010, was built under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract with the Chinese company SEPCO.

According to a 2017 VS Lignite report, the power station had been shut down in July 2017.[3] It was unclear how long the power station had been shut down.

According to a half-yearly Central Electricity Authority (CEA) report in 2020, the VS Lignite power station still had an installed capacity of 135 MW and was actively operating.[4]

News in May 2023 reported that VS Lignite would sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PTC India for 115 MW, indicating that the power station was still operational.[5] At the time, the station had reportedly been selling power to power distribution companies ("discoms") via short-term power sale agreements.

Planet imagery in 2023 and 2024 showed smoke emitting from the VS Lignite power station unit, indicating that the unit was still operating.
