Background

The Varadero-Matanzas Pipeline, also called the Oleoducto Magistral Varadero-Matanzas (OMVM) originates in EPEP-Centro's oil processing plant, in Varadero. From there, it travels through the Varadero-Matanzas re-pumping station to the Empresa Comercializadora de Crudo de Matanzas (Matanzas' Oil Commercializing Company), in Matanzas. The pipeline is divided into two segments, one before the pumping station (42 km) and one after the pumping station (33 km). The pipeline follows a curved path, bordering the city of Matanzas, because it connects to the Matanzas-Cienfuegos Oil Pipeline on the southernmost point of its path, right after the Varadero-Matanzas pumping station.
