Vostohcnaya Coal Terminal was a coal handling facility operated by Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSK) at Wrangel Bay in Primorsky Krai, East Russia.
It ceased coal-handling operations in September 2021, choosing to focus instead on more environmentally friendly cargo such as containers.[1][2] However news reports from June 2024 indicated that it may restart coal handling again.[3]
Vostochny Port, Maly Port, and the East Ural coal terminal still handle coal at Wrangel Bay.
Location
The map below shows the location of the VSK facilities at Wrangel Bay in East Russia. The massive Vostochny Port coal terminal can be seen directly to the north.
Background
The port began handling coal in 2011, handling 1.5 million tonnes in 2019.[1][2] It ceased coal-handling operations in September 2021, choosing to focus instead on more environmentally friendly cargo such as containers.[1][2]
However, in 2024 it was reported that the container terminal of Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSK, part of the Global Ports group) plans to repurpose one of the berths for coal handling.[3] There was no further news on the proposed coal handling capacity.
