Waai power station is a proposed 2 x 15 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Waai State, Ambon Island, Central Maluku regency, Indonesia.

Location

The satellite photo below shows the plant in Waai state, Ambon Island, Central Maluku regency. Google Earth photos taken between January 2017 and December 2018 show that construction on the plant has resumed, after being halted in 2014.

Background on Plant

Construction of the plant began in 2010 but stopped in 2014 because of disputes over land rights and allegations of corruption. In the 2018-2027 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), the Ambon or Waai PLTU is part of the Fast Track Program (FTP). In July 2018 PT PLN Persero announced that construction would resume in 2018, with a target completion date of 2019. Energy China signed the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract in February 2019.
