The Whareatea West coal project is a coal deposit being explored by Bathurst Resources as a part of its multi-mine Buller Coal Project. The project is located on the Denniston Plateau just inland from Westport on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Background
The company estimates that it contains 3.5 million tonnes of proved coal resource and an additional 0.5 million tonnes of probable resource. The company estimates that the total proved and probable coal which could be sold could be 2.9 million tonnes.[1]
