Background
Alternative fuel use at the Wietersdorf cement plant dates back to 1987. In 1994, the plant constructed a plastic processing kiln and, in 2005, a new furnace system was constructed, both in increase alternative fuel use. The plant was originally founded as the Foundation of Wietersdorfer Portland and Roman Cementwerke Philipp Knoch. In 1907, the company completed a merger of the Wietersdorfer Zementwerk Phil. Knoch & Cie and the Peggau cement works Alois Kern. In 2011, the W&P cement brand was created from the Wietersdorfer & Peggauer Zementwerke GmbH company. Most recently, in 2018, the company rebranded again to create Alpacem as the umbrella for all cement and concrete business.
