Background
The project was proposed in 2021 to connect the floating LNG terminal at Wilhelmshaven to Germany's national gas transmission grid at the NETRA gas pipeline. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the project was fast-tracked, with approval for construction granted in June, 2022.[6]
OGE also notes that the pipeline will be ready to blend and carry hydrogen as production facilities are built, and will plug into proposals for making Wilhelmshaven a "hub" for green energy and hydrogen.[7]
Construction of the pipeline was finished in March, 2022, and was commissioned in December of the same year.[8]
