Background

Huadian Xiangyang power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,400 MW. The plant was completed between 1998 and 2006, and is majority owned by China Huadian.[1]

Expansion

In 2013 it was reported that China Huadian planned to build an additional 2 x 1,000 MW coal-fired units at the site location.[2][3][4]

In January 2020, Hubei province said it still planned to pursue the project.[5] However, Hubei changed the project and location to the Hubei Yicheng power station. This expansion is therefore cancelled.
