Background on Project

Xishui power station is a 4 x 135MW coal-fired power plant. Construction started in 2000 and was completed in 2001 and 2002. It was originally owned by CPI.[1] It was part of the project "Sending Electricity from West to East". The electricity it generates supplies Guangdong Province.[2]

The plant was planned to close down in 2020 and be replaced with two new 660 MW units.[3] As of June 2021 the plant still appeared to be operating, based on satellite data.

As of December 2023, the capacity replacement project was presumed to be Zhijin power station.

Ownership

In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[4]
