Background
Yong'an power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 600 MW in Fujian Province. It was founded in 1958. The earliest two 1.5MW units started generating electricity in 1960. In 1975, two units of first phase with total capacity of 50MW were completed. Two more units with 50MW each were added to the power plant in 1979, and in 1984 & 1985, a pair of 100MW units started operation, leading the total capacity of the power plant to reach 350MW. It was the biggest coal-fired power plant in Fujian Province in 1980's, sharing 70% of the total coal fired power capacity in Fujian Province.[1]
Units 1 and 2 were retired in 2005, Units 3 and 4 were retired in 2007, and units 5 and 6 were retired in 2012.[2][3]
The retirement of these older units fulfilled the requirement to build new coal power units. Units 7 & 8, totaling 600 MW, received a permit for construction in 2009, [4] and were completed in 2010-12. The plant is owned by China Huadian.[5]
