Background
This pipeline is associated with the Yuri Korchagin oil field, located in the Russian waters of the North Caspian Sea, 180 kilometers from the city of Astrakhan and 240 kilometers from Makhachkala. The pipeline runs from the Yuri Korchagin oil field to an offshore floating storage unit.
Oil is shipped onshore to Makhachkala via shuttle tankers. At Makhachkala, the oil is fed into the Makhachkala–Novorossiysk Oil Pipeline, operated by SOCAR and Transneft.[1]
