Background

Zagustaisky Coal Mine (Загустайский разрез) is a SURFACE mine in Buryatia, Russia. Zagustaisky coal mine used to be owned by Buryatugol which went bankrupt in 2017. The coal mine was acquired by Vostochno-Sibirskaya Gornaya Company (Eastern Siberian Mining Company) in 2018.[3][4] It appears that the company is owned by private individuals.[5]

2017 production was about 0.4 million tonnes and coal was supplied to Gusinoozyorskaya power station.[6]

In 2021, the mine was operating as it was mentioned as one of the four producers in Buryatia in 2021.[7]

A media report from March 2023 referred to joint production of Zagustaisky coal mine and Daban Gorhon mine under the same ownership at 0.292 million tonnes in 2022, significantly lower than in the previous years.[8]
