Background

Two older units of 135 MW each were commissioned in 1990 and 1991, retired in 2010[1]. Units 3-6 of Zheneng Wenzhou power station, totaling 1,200 MW, were brought online between 2000 and 2004. The plant is owned by Zhejiang Provincial Energy Group.[2][3]

Background on Unit 3&4

The second phase of the power plant, unit 3&4 with 300 MW of each, began its construction in 1998, and completed in 2001. It was reportedly the first Project in Zhejiang Province that had foreign investment involved. [4]The operating company was registered as 浙江温州特鲁莱发电有限责任公司(Zhejiang Wenzhou Telulai (transcription) Power Generation Company Ltd). The shareholders of the company are 美国赛德中国控股有限公司 (America Sithe China Holdings Company Limited., a subsidiary of Sithe Energies, Inc, a grandson Subsidiary of Vivendi SA) 40%; 浙江浙能电力股份有限公司 (Zhejiang Zheneng Electric Power Co,. Ltd)30%; 温州电力投资有限公司 (Wenzhou Power Investment Co., Ltd.) 30.00%. [5]In 2003, China Resources Power Holdings co.,Ltd. purchased 40% shares from America Sithe China Holdings, becoming the major shareholder of the company. [6][7]

Expansion

Zhejiang Provincial Energy Group proposed the two-unit coal-fired Zheneng Wenzhou-4 power station, with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW. The new units were completed in 2015.[8][9][10]

Units 7-8 began operating in 2015.[11]
