Background

Ziddi coal mine is SURFACE mine in Varzob district, Tajikistan.

The mine is also known as Kazhora mine. The Ziddi coal mine is being exploited by Koni Angishti Ziddi since 2001.[2] It is in turn owned by the state-owned Angishti Tojik.[3]

The Ziddi coal deposit is located 72 km to the north of Dushanbe and 10 km away from the Dushanbe-Chanak highway. The absolute height of the site is 2300-2800 m. The Ziddi coal deposit is divided by the Sanggalt River into two plots: the Western and the Eastern. The mine lies on the Western plot.[2]

The annual volume of coal production is about 120 thousand tonnes, as per 2017 report.[2]

In 2019, a media source reports that the coal mine contributed 10% to the national production of about 2 million tonnes.[4] In 2021, the mine produced 0.244 million tonnes, with both surface and underground mining.[5]
