Background

The mine was not producing already in 2020 - it was only engaged in pumping water and maintaining life.

It appeared that following the flooding of the other mines (located on the occupied territory of Luhansk region) in 2015-2016, the water level at the Zolotoye mine which has a hydraulic connection with the flooded mines, increased. Under such circumstances, there was a risk of emergency situations - destruction of buildings, landslides, subsidence of the earth's surface, contamination of drinking water intakes with mine waters, and loss of minerals. In order to prevent a disaster, the Ukrainian Government allocated funds in 2018 to finance works and purchase equipment at the Zolotoye.

In early 2022, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine ordered to liquidate the unprofitable Zolotoye mine of the State Enterprise Pervomaiskugol.

The mine was flooded in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "Everything has drowned together with pumps and energy equipment, it is impossible to pump out the water anymore due to Russian shelling.
