Background

The existing Zuoquan power station is a 2 x 631 MW power station that went into operation in 2011 and 2012, respectively. It is majority-owned by China Huaneng.[1][2][3]

Expansion

China Huaneng has proposed an additional two units of 660 MW each at the site. The construction plan was approved in 2014.[4][5] Construction began in 2015, with operation planned for 2017.[6]

When construction began in 2015, the expansion was renamed and considered its own separate power station, known as Taihang power station.
