Abinsk Electric Steel Works (Абинский ЭлектроМеталлургический завод, АЭМЗ), also known as AEMK, AESW, AEMZ, ASW, is a steel plant in Abinsk, Krasnodar, Russia that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Background
Construction of the plant started in 2008, and the plant was commissioned in 2010. The electric arc furnace shop began operating in 2014.[1]
In June 2024, it was reported that Novostal-M, the plant's owner, had reduced liquid steel production due to the financial burden of excise taxes and export duties. It became more profitable for the company to source steel billets from partners rather than relying on scrap metal. It was also mentioned that the company had stopped paying the excise tax on steel, required during production, and had begun purchasing ready-made semi-finished products. Novostal-M continues to work with scrap metal, with HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) making up 10-15% of its production. However, the sharp increase in scrap prices has become a significant issue.[2]
In August 2024, the plant produced 7,000 tons of liquid steel, representing just 5% of its designed monthly capacity, indicating that it has been operating at significantly reduced levels.[3]
