Background
The Acciaierie Venete Borgo Valsugana steel plant was established in 1979 by businessman Dario Leali; it operated until 2012 when it went bankrupt, then was taken over by Acciaierie Venete in 2017.[1]
Environmental and Social Justice
A study published in 2016 found that workers at the plant over several decades have experienced a significant increased risk of lung tumors, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases as compared to the general population.[2]
