Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant (Алчевский металлургический комбинат, Алчевський МК (Ukranian), Алчевський металургійний комбінат, Алчевский МК), also known as AMK, Alchevsk Iron & Steel plant, is a steel plant in Alchevsk, Luhansk, Ukraine that operates blast furnace (BF) and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) technology.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Alchevsk, Luhansk, Ukraine:

Background

Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant is located in the occupied Ukrainian territory, the Luhansk People's Republic. The plant is currently controlled by the Southern Mining and Metallurgical Complex (Russian: Южный горно-металлургический комплекс ЮГМК). Production levels are unknown. As of October 2024, three out of four blast furnaces and the two basic oxygen furnaces are operating.[1]

Alchevsk Iron & Steel plant was nationalized by breakaway authorities and has been controlled by ZAO Vneshtorgservis since March 2017.[2][3] In 2021, a new company was established by a Russian businessman Evgeny Yurchenko, Southern Mining And Processing Complex (Russian: "Южный горно-металлургический комплекс", ЮГМК), which absorbed all of the metallurgical plants belonging to ZAO Vneshtorgservis.[4][5][6]

Since 2017, the plant has been operating intermittently, with deteriorated work conditions, including withholding of salaries.[7]

As of November 2023, two blast furnaces appear to be operating.[8] There are no updates on the status of the other two blast furnaces, which seem to have been mothballed since 2017.[9]

As of October 2024, three out of four blast furnaces and the two basic oxygen furnaces are operating.[1]
