Location

The pipeline runs from the city of Almaty to Talgar, Almaty region, Kazakhstan.[1]

Project details

Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar I Gas Pipeline

Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar II Gas Pipeline

Background

The investment project to construct the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar I Gas Pipeline was implemented in 2014 in pursuance of the Presidential State-of-the-National Address to develop the gas infrastructure of the Almaty region.[1] Construction of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar II Gas Pipeline commenced in 2023 in accordance with an order of the president to convert the operating power stations of Almaty to gas.[2] The new pipeline will also allow to avoid emergency situations associated with the shutdown of the existing single-line gas pipeline. In addition, it is expected that the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar II Gas Pipeline will allow to realize full-scale gas supply to Almaty city through the Talgar Gas Distribution Station as well as to carry out overhaul on the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar I without stopping gas supply to the connected gas distribution stations.[2] Both segments will run parallel to each other.[8]

As of May 2024, 56.5 km of the pipeline have been built. The project is expected to be completed in September 2024. In addition to that, a connecting pipeline was built between the Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar and Central Asia-China (C) gas pipelines in 2023.[2]

In October 2024, QazaqGaz's board chair briefed the Kazakhstani head of state and noted the Almaty-Bayserke-Talgar II pipeline was completed.[6]
