Cleveland-Cliffs Riverdale steel plant, also known as Riverdale Works, ArcelorMittal Riverdale steel plant (predecessor), Acme Steel (predecessor), is a steel plant in Riverdale, Illinois, United States that operates basic oxygen furnace (BOF) technology.

Background

The Cleveland-Cliffs Riverdale steel plant began operating in 1917 and was operated by Acme Steel. In 2002, the International Steel Group, organized by WL Ross & Co. LLC, bought the bankrupt Acme Steel and re-opened it as ISG Riverdale Inc.[1] It was later bought by ArcelorMittal. The ownership of the plant transferred to Cleveland-Cliffs when the acquisition of ArcelorMittal USA and all US ArcelorMittal plants by Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. was completed on December 9, 2020 for $1.4 billion.[2][3]
