Coal plant cancellations in India
From Global Energy Monitor
During 2011 and 2012, increasing numbers of proposed coal plants in India have been delayed or halted outright. The problems facing developers including (1) opposition from local residents over land acquisition, air pollution impacts, fly ash contamination of groundwater, effect of thermal discharges on fisheries, displacement of communities, and other impacts; (2) difficulty obtaining commitments of coal domestically from Coal India and its subsidiaries; (3) rising prices for imported coal; and (4) increasing difficulties obtaining financing.
