Daye Special Steel Co Ltd (大冶特殊钢有限公司(湖北新冶钢有限公司)), also known as Hubei Daye Special Steel Co., Ltd., is a blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Huangshi, Hubei, China.

Background

According to the announcement of the capacity replacement plan published in 2019, the company plans to build a 1280m3 blast furnace to eliminate 520m3 blast furnace.[1] The company will also build a new 50-ton electric furnace to eliminate two 20-ton electric furnaces, which are expected to be put into operation in 2024.[2]

However, when the blast furnace was commissioned in August 2020, its actual volume was approximately 1,840m³ instead of the intended 1,280m³, necessitating rectification and optimization. On July 30, 2024, the company completed the optimization and renovation work, reducing the furnace volume to 1,780m³.[3]

According to the project acceptance announcement issued by the Hubei Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology in December 2023, the company’s 50-ton alloy steel electric furnace project has been completed. The two 20-ton electric furnaces designated for replacement have been dismantled in accordance with regulations.[4]
