Background

Denisovsky Surface Coal Mine (участок открытых горных работ Денисовский) is a surface mine in Neryungri, Sakha Republic, Russia.

The Denisovsky Surface coal mine is operated by GOK Denisovsky JSC, which is owned by Kolmar LLC.

It is part of the Denisovsky Mining Complex (Денисовский ГОК) which also includes the Denisovsky Vostochny Coal Mine and Denisovskaya Central Coal Mine.

GOK Denisovsky complex produced 5.1 million tonnes in 2022[9] - lower than in 2021 - one of the reasons is the consequences of the earthquake which affected the technological process of GOK Denisovsky.[10] 2023 production declined further to 4.3 million tonnes.[11]

As per government report from 2023, surface coal mining will continue until 2025.[12]

2021- 2023 production volumes of the surface mine were estimated on the basis of declining trend, overall GOK production and the approaching end of surface coal mining.[12]
