Background
The Dos Bocas power station originally had a capacity of 452 MW, comprising two combined cycle blocks of 226 MW each.[8] CFE reportedly planned to retire one of the blocks in 2015[9], but a 2018 government report still listed the plant's capacity at 452 MW.[10] In 2020, CFE noted that 226 MW of Dos Bocas' production remained vital to national energy supply despite high costs of operation.[11]
As of September 2020, plans called for the entire plant to be retired upon the commissioning of the new Dos Bocas II power station.[12] However, as of October 2024, with the future of the Dos Bocas II power station uncertain, the original Dos Bocas plant continued to operate.[13]
