Eastern Steel Kemaman plant, also known as ESSB plant, is a blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Kemaman, Terengganu, Malaysia.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Kemaman, Terengganu, Malaysia:

  • Location: Lot 6293 & 6294, Teluk Kalung Industrial Estate, 24000 Kemaman, Terengganu Darul Iman, Malaysia
  • Coordinates (WGS 84): 4.285062, 103.432551 (exact)

Background

The plant currently houses a sintering plant, an blast furnace, a BOF converter with a capacity of 700 ttpa and captive power plant.[1] The plant is planning to expand its capacity in two phases; to achieve 3 mtpa in first phase and 5 mtpa in second phase.[2] On 08 March 2023, the plant began installing a second blast furnace and 80 ton converter as part of its first phase expansion.[3][4] The second blast furnace commenced operations on 01 August, 2023.[5] The constriction of the third phase is expected to begin in 2025.[6]
