Background
In November 2019, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) classified the GNA power station as a priority project, encompassing four gas-fired power stations and an onshore terminal.[9] Commercial operations at the 1338 MW GNA I power station began in September 2021, with construction of the 1672 MW GNA II power station expected to begin shortly thereafter, and an additional 3.4 GW of capacity to eventually be added at the GNA III and GNA IV power stations.[10] As of November 2022, plant sponsor Gas Natural Açu still did not list GNA IV on its company webpage.[11] However, the project was listed as a participant in Brazil's A-5 national energy auction in September 2021.[12]
