In 2018, Gerdau announced an additional $70.3 million investment to add transformer, controls and mechanical upgrades to the EAF, among other things.[2] The project was meant to be completed by 2020, but carried on into 2021.[3]

In 2020, the plant was idled due to complications arising from the covid-19 pandemic. It was restarted shortly after.[4]
