Background

Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd in 2021 announced its plan to set up integrated steel plant of capacity 1 mtpa which includes the installation of a blast furnace.[1] The expansion of crude steel capacity by 1 mtpa will take 36 months from beginning of the project and entail an investment of INR 2,500 crores. As of July 2023, the company had applied for the environmental clearance for expansion and was awaiting response.[2]

On 06 February 2024, the company approved a proposal for setting up of Green Field Integrated Steel Plant with an enhanced capacity of 2.2 million tones from 1 million tones proposed earlier, at an estimated cost of Rs. 6,000 crore.[3][4]

In October 2024, the company submitted the project proposal for environmental clearance, which was accepted by the state government.[5]
