History

According to the Guangxi Coal Mining Safety Supervision Bureau there were altogether 123 coal mines in Guangxi in 2011. Guangdong province’s ports in southwestern China to boast the country's largest throughput of coal imports in 2011. The customs authority in Nanning said that the ports recorded a total throughput of over 27 million tonnes of coal in 2011. This accounted for 15 percent of China’s total coal despite Guangxi not being a large production region. The region is about 220,400 square km (85,100 square miles.) It has a population of 46,026,629 as of 2010 census.
