Gunung Raja Paksi North Sumatra steel plant, also known as Gunung Gahapi Sakti, is a steel plant in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia that operates blast furnace (BF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the approximate location of the plant in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia:
- Location: Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 3.66445, 98.666166 (approximate)
Background
Gunung Gahapi Sakti was established in 1978 and produced downstream steel products.[1] It was soon merged with steel producer Gunung Raja Paksi.[2] The company has been developing a steelmaking complex in Medan, North Sumatra, comprising a blast furnace with capacity of almost 800 ttpa, as well as sintering plant and hot treatment plant. The plant is being developed through an equal partnership with China’s Nanjing Iron & Steel (Nangang).[3] According to OECD 2022 report, the proposed plant consists of an EAF facility of capacity 500 ttpa.[4] The construction of the project was kicked off in 2014.[5][6]
