Background

The Hadeed Metal Manufacturing Co Damascus steel plant began operating in 2012 with EAF technology. Little recent public information is available; no environmental or safety incidents seem to have occurred as of 2021.

However, according to a report by the Syrian Legal Development Programme, the Hadeed MMC plant (and its owner, Mohammed Hamsho, who owns the Hadeed Metal Manufacturing Company as part of the Hamsho International Group) is linked to the pillage and destruction of civilian property in Syria, as the plant sells some of its products to the Fourth Division of the Syrian armed forces, contributing to the ongoing conflict in the region.[1]
