Background

In 2005, JSPL announced its plan to set up a 6000 ttpa steel plant in phases at Asanboni, Jharkhand, India, the public hearing of which was held on 08 March 2014.[1][2][3] The plant required an investment of INR 22,000 crores and about 1,400 acres of land.[4] The company ran into land acquisition problems.[2] As of March 2014, the company said the project was still on and were expecting commissioning in 2019.[5] As of November 2024, there has been no further updates on the project. However, OECD continues to list the plant in upcoming projects.[6]
