  • Coordinates (WGS 84): 18.530853, 72.947091 (exact)

Background

The plant was set up in 1989 as Vikram Ispat by Aditya Birla Group with a design capacity of 750 ttpa.[1] Welspun acquired the plant in 2009 and renamed it as Welspun Maxsteel.[2] JSW Steel acquired the plant in 2014 for INR 1,000 crores.[3][4][5] A proposal to set up and integrated steel plant of capacity 1.5 mtpa was modified in 2015 due to shortage of natural gas. The new proposal involved setting up a 3 mtpa steel plant using Corex technology and EAF at a cost of INR 12,000 crores.[6][7] As of December 2023, there has been no update on the project
