Background

JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Steel Plant is a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel. It is part of the capacity expansion of JSW Steel Vijayanagar steel plant. The planned brownfield project has a crude steel capacity of 5 mtpa.[1] The project involves establishing 4.5 MTPA Blast Furnace, two Steel Melt Shops 350 tons each and 5 MTPA Hot Strip Mill along with other allied and auxiliary facilities.[2][3][4] JVML is expected to contribute nearly 15% of the total installed capacity of JSW Steel Limited.[5] The foundation stone for the project was laid on 07 January, 2022.[3] The manufacturing facilities of JVML is being set up in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, adjacent to the existing plant of 12 MTPA of JSWSL.[5] The project was expected to begin operations in FY2024.[1]

The hot strip mill was commissioned in March and blast furnace in October 2024, while the steel melt shop is expected to be commissioned in Q4 FY2025.[6]
