Background
In March 2024, Ceiba Energy announced that it would develop the 2.2 GW LNG-fired Jandaia power station near the port of Pecém in Brazil's Ceará state.[2] The company had just concluded the sale of its previously announced project in the same location, the 1.6 GW Portocém power station, to New Fortress Energy, which planned to relocate the Portocém project to Barcarena in Pará state.[3]
In August 2024, Ceiba Energy confirmed that it had signed a contract with the Companhia de Gás do Ceará (CEGÁS) to provide gas distribution services for the new power plant.[4][5] The plant's capacity, which had originally been announced as 2.2 GW, was now listed as 2.43 GW.[4][5] Gas for the plant was to be supplied by a 138,000m3 FSRU with a regasification capacity of up to 750,000 MMBtu/day[6], docked at the Port of Pecém.[4][5]
